One of the best learning and sensory experiences for kids is cooking and baking. For this week’s “Cooking with Kids” themed Discover & Explore linky, I’m sharing a few ways we’ve cooked with kids on Buggy and Buddy! (Be sure to link up all your cooking with kids posts at the end of this post.)

Cooking with kids is one of our favorite activities here at home. I absolutely love all the learning that takes place! Lucy, my 5 year old, loves measuring the ingredients on her own and reading the recipes. She’s even starting to understand the concept of fractions. Cooking also provides the perfect opportunity for my 2 year old, Theo, to work on fine motor and verbal skills. He loves stirring all the ingredients and we talk about all the things we’re doing. And the best part is it’s just simply fun! (This post contains affiliate links to Amazon. Thank you so much for your support!)

One of  our favorite cooking activities is baking bread! Have you heard of the book Sun Bread by Elisa Kleven? It’s one of our favorites. It’s all about how some animals get together and bake some sun-shaped bread on a rainy day. And the back of the book has a recipe to bake your own sun bread! It’s one of our favorite things to do on a rainy day!

Recently, I shared a recipe for cheese snack crackers. This is the perfect recipe for kids! They love rolling out the dough and cutting out all the shapes with cookie cutters!

It’s also fun to involve you kids in making homemade play dough! It’s a great sensory experience that ends with a fun product to play with!

An ice cream maker is a fun appliance to introduce kids to. We love coming up with our own ice cream flavor ideas and trying them out!

Another fun fall cooking activity is making your own applesauce. We have a crockpot we use and our recipe is sugar free! Lucy’s favorite part is peeling the apples with our apple peeler!
