The kids and I are having SO much fun with all these Christmas crafts for kids! Our favorites so far are for sure our Chalk Stencil Christmas Tree Lights, Santa Star Ornament, and our Felt Christmas Tree Pins. However, I think after making these cute and colorful Christmas tree cards, they may have become front runners for our favorite Christmas craft this year!
As a parent what I like about these homemade cards for kids to make are they require only a few inexpensive materials. And I think when children make their own Christmas cards, it can help them to focus on the recipient and really take part in the true meaning of gift giving during the holidays.
Now if you ask Lucy what she liked about this craft, she’d for sure say making the Christmas tree. She is all about the accordion fold technique! And Theo was so so excited to glue those pom poms onto the Christmas tree. It’s the most focused I’ve seen him on a craft yet! (This post contains affiliate links.)
Homemade Christmas Tree Card for Kids to Make
Materials for Homemade Christmas Tree Card
- Construction paper in assorted colors
- Scissors
- Single hole punch
- Liquid glue
- Optional: pom poms, sequins or small gems
Directions for Homemade Christmas Tree Card
1. Cut out a green triangle.
2. Accordion fold the triangle. Glue it onto a square-shaped white piece of construction paper.
3. Cut out a brown rectangle and glue it under the tree for the trunk. Use the hole puncher to punch out circles in an assortment of colors. Glue these onto your tree.
Younger kids will have a hard time with these tiny paper circles. You could give them small gems which are easier to pick up. Or for very young children (like my 2 year old), try using pom poms. Theo LOVED decorating his tree with the ‘balls’ as he called them.
4. Cut out a rectangle from red construction paper and fold it in half to make your greeting card. (Be sure it’s big enough to fit your white square.) Glue your white square onto the front of the greeting card.
5. Once it’s all dry, write a special holiday message to the very lucky recipient inside the card!
