Use this free trading card template in all kinds of fun ways! This printable has spaces for illustrations and text to make them versatile. They also fit into penny sleeves if you want to take this a step further to make your trading cards to feel like the real thing. I’ll list some fun ways to use them below, and I can’t wait to hear all the ideas you or your kids come up with.
Materials Needed
- White Cardstock
- Scissors or Paper Cutter (This is the paper cutter I have at home and use often.)
- Markers, Fine Point Markers or Colored Pencils (We love this pencil sharpener.)
- Pen, pencil or fine point black marker
- Optional: Penny Sleeves

How to Create Your Own Trading Cards
- Download our template and print it onto white cardstock.
- Illustrate and add text based on the theme you will be using them for. (I’ll list some ideas down below.)
- Cut out your trading cards with scissors or a paper cutter.
- Save your cards or trade with others.
It helps to have some sample trading cards available for kids to see that might not normally collect them. (Be sure to check out my post on all the learning benefits that come with collecting trading cards.)
Ideas for Using the Trading Card Printable
There are so many ways you can use the blank trading card template. Here are just a few ideas:
- Create sports cards based on pro players or your child’s teammates on their own sports team.
- Write, define and illustrate vocabulary words.
- Create trading cards to go with characters from a book your are reading.
- Use them as flashcards for things like flags, states, etc.
- They can be used to share information on a topic you are learning about or are interested in like flowers, sharks, birds, trees and other similar topics.
- Design your own Pokemon.
- Create your own imaginary creatures.
- Make a trading card about yourself. Photocopy enough to trade with your classmates or friends.
