Amazon Fire HD Kids Edition Review

The kids have been wanting (I should actually say have been begging) for our family to have a tablet. I’d been hesitant because I worried about the kids breaking it, and I was also concerned about monitoring their time on it. Both these concerns were to put to rest when our family had the opportunity to try out Amazon Fire HD Kids Edition. If you’re looking for a quality gift for the whole family, you’ll definitely want to consider this Kids Edition tablet from Amazon!

First Impressions

The tablet comes with a durable, kid-proof case which is super simple to snap on. The case is very light so it doesn’t add too much weight to the tablet as you’re holding it. I also found the case made the tablet easy for the kids to hold and grip. I love that the tablet comes with this added protection to protect it from drops and bumps. (And even if in the event something does happen, this tablet comes with a 2-year worry-free guarantee. That means if anything happens, send the device back and they’ll replace it for free – no questions asked!)

Next I went through a simple process of setting up individual profiles for each family member: me, my husband, Lucy, and Theo. It’s like we each have our own tablet!

Together over the last few weeks, the kids and I explored the various books, apps, and videos available through FreeTime Unlimited.  (Kids get unlimited access to 5,000 books, movies, TV shows, educational apps, and games—at no additional cost.) We found TONS of quality games that both Lucy and Theo loved!

Why We Love the Amazon Fire HD Kids Edition

  • This tablet is perfect for the entire family to use. You can each set up your own profile. I’ve been using my time on the tablet to read ebooks, while the kids have loved playing educational games.
  • The parent controls are a huge benefit. I’m able to control which apps the kids can use and specify the length of time they can use the tablet each day. Once a child’s time is up, that child’s profile goes to a cute good-bye screen. There’s no begging for more time or me having to set a timer. You can also set educational goals for each child!

Profiles on Amazon Fire Kids Edition

  • This tablet also comes with a camera which the whole family loves. The kids love taking pictures of things they’ve built with their toys and of each other!
  • This device isn’t a toned down tablet- it’s the real deal.  The Amazon Fire HD Kids Edition features a quad-core processor, a vivid HD display, front- and rear-facing cameras and Dolby Digital audio.
