Can you believe it’s almost spring? The seasons seem to be flying by! I love when it’s time to take out our spring book collection. The kids’ excitement over seeing our spring books again just puts the biggest smile on my face.
As usual, at the start of each season, we put away our previous season’s books and excitedly display our books for the new season.
Here are some of our favorites from our spring book collection~ (with commentary by Lucy, age 4, in green). This post contains affiliate links.
by Gerda Muller
“It shows you what is fun to do in the spring and about little animals.”
We have the Gerda Muller books for each season and love them! Just like the others, this spring book has no text allowing for so many possibilities when reading the story. The illustrations are full of fun, active things that can be done in spring like playing with baby lambs or decorating Easter eggs.
by Margaret Wise Brown
“There’s this bunny and he wondered what was inside this egg. And there was a chick. And my favorite part was when the chick met the bunny.”
This is one of my favorite spring books! It’s an adorable story of a baby bunny waiting for a little duck to hatch. The kids always seem to really connect with this story!
by Kevin Henkes
“He wonders what it’s like to be things, but when he sees a cat he goes back to his house.”
I love how the illustrations in this book really demonstrate the joy and happiness that spring brings and also gorgeously depict the litte white rabbit’s vivid imagination.
by Judy Dunn
“This little girl went to this farm and then she found a little baby lamb with no momma. But then she took it home to be a pet. And my favorite part was when I saw the little lamb.”
I remember this story from when I was little. I can remember wishing I had a baby lamb to care for just like the little girl in the story!
by Kevin Henkes
“She dreamed that all her plants growed beautiful and none of the bunnies would get them because they would be chocolate. It makes me think of I wish I had 100 gardens because I love gardens.”
Another wonderful Kevin Henkes book~ This little girl imagines the garden of her dreams! Not only is it enjoyable to read, but it serves as a great creative prompt for kids to write or draw their own amazing gardens!
“This boy thinks it’s summer but his mom keeps saying, “No.” But soon it was really was summer!”
All about a boy is anxiously awaiting summer. With each turn of the page, another sign is found that the season of spring is coming to a close and summer is nearing. I love the repetition in this book!
by Patricia Polacco
Lucy has not read this one yet, hoping to bring it out as Easter nears. I love Patricia Polacco’s books! This is one of my favorites! It’s a wonderful story full of caring, forgiveness and friendship and also full of beautiful illustrations!
What are some of your favorite books about spring? I would love to add to our collection!
