This collection of egg-themed picture books is perfect for Easter! These children’s books would be a great addition to any science experiments with eggs or an Easter-themed unit.

As we’ve been reading our favorite spring books, Lucy and I have noticed that many of the stories have eggs involved in the storyline in some way. We thought we’d compile a list of some of our favorite children books about eggs just in time for spring and Easter reading fun! (Commentary by Lucy, age 5, in green)

First the Egg by Laura Vaccaro Seeger
“It tells you about the first things. And then it also reminds me of when I first growed up”
A cute little book that shows how things begin and end.
The Golden Egg Book by Margaret Wise Brown
“There’s this bunny and he wondered what was inside this egg. And there was a chick. And my favorite part was when the chick met the bunny.”
This is one of my favorite spring books! It’s an adorable story of a baby bunny waiting for a little duck to hatch.
The Easter Egg by Jan Brett
“The Easter Egg is about a little bunny. Whoever wins the most beautiful egg gets to hide Easter eggs for Easter day. Then the little bunny wins and he gets to help the Easter bunny hide them.” “I like the little bunny. It was cute.”
This is our newest addition to our Easter collection. It was an adorable story about a little bunny learning to be true to himself while helping others in need. Love Jan Brett!
Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss
“It’s about an elephant that hatches an egg, and it turns into an elephant bird.”
A book about keeping your promises no matter what the challenges are you face when doing it.
Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss
“Someone doesn’t want to eat green eggs and ham. It told me to try new foods.”
One of our favorite Dr. Seuss books! I think I have it memorized by now!
Rechenka’s Eggs by Patricia Polacco
“A goose lays eggs. I think it paints them. And there’s a surprise at the end.”
This is a wonderful story full of caring, forgiveness and friendship and also full of beautiful illustrations!
Tillie Lays An Egg by Terry Golson
“A chicken lays eggs everywhere! I like it because it’s kind of silly. It reminds me of sometimes when we make a mess and we put some things everywhere.”
Lucy has loved this book for years! You’ll get to know lots of chickens, especially Tillie, who loves to lay eggs everywhere but her nest!
Argus by Michelle Knudsen
“Argus is about a girl that doesn’t want to be different. She gets a dragon as a pet. When she finds it she’s happy again. I like the dragon in the story.”
This is another one of our newer books. Every student is given an egg to care for. The main character’s hatches into something very different than everyone else’s!
