We are absolutely in love with ocean and sea life crafts and activites! (You can find lots on Buggy and Buddy- like these paper plate pufferfish, our ocean slime, and these cool toilet paper roll jellyfish.) This adorable, woven, paper shark craft is the perfect addition to our collection! This shark craft comes with a free shark template to make the activity even easier.
Woven Paper Plate Shark Craft
Materials for Woven Shark Craft
- Cardstock or construction paper (Dark Gray, light gray, white, and black)
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Black and Sharpie (or other marker)
- Optional: Paper cutter (I have this one at home. It’s perfect for prepping paper crafts!)
- Free shark template
Directions for Woven Shark Craft
1. Print out the free shark template twice- once onto dark gray cardstock and once onto light gray cardstock. (You can also print it twice onto white cardstock and trace it onto gray construction paper.)
2. Cut out the shark templates- the outside one and the inside one.
3. Trace the template onto gray construction paper (if you didn’t already print it onto gray cardstock) and cut out.
4. Trace the eye onto white cardstock or construction paper twice to create two eyes. Cut out two smaller black circles for the center of the eyes.
5. Fold the inner portion of the shark in half and cut slits into the cardstock shark. Leave about 1/2 inch- 1 inch border at the edge to avoid tearing as the kids are weaving.
6. Cut strips of colored cardstock.
7. Weave the strips into and out of the slits in the shark.
8. Glue the ends of the paper strips down to keep them from moving out of place.
9. Cut off excess paper around the shark.
10. Glue the inner shark piece onto the outer shark piece.
11. Glue black centers onto your white eyes. Glue the eyes onto the shark.
12. Use black and red markers to add a smile onto the shark.
13. Cut tiny teeth from white cardstock and glue onto the mouth.
14. Use a black marker to add nostrils and gills onto the shark.
Your shark is finished!
