Here’s a super easy rainbow craft that also provides fine motor practice- a beaded rainbow necklace! Kids can practice putting the colors of the rainbow in order and even add some gold to each end in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day!
St. Patrick’s Day always inspires us to get creative with rainbows. We’ve already made some rainbow-inspired art like these unique rainbows and oil pastel rainbows, so I thought it was time to get our crafting on!
We used some pony beads in the colors of the rainbow to make these simple rainbow necklace. I love how this rainbow activity provides fine motor practice and also science practice by helping children learn the order of the colors in the rainbow. We even added some gold beads at each end of our rainbow to represent pots of gold! (This post contains affiliate links.)
Rainbow Necklace with Beads
Materials for Rainbow Necklace Craft
- Pony beads in a variety of colors
- Gold pony beads
- Black plastic lacing (Young children might find black pipe cleaners easier to use. They can use them to make bracelets!)
- Scissors
Directions for Rainbow Necklace Craft
1. Place all your beads into a bowl.
2. Cut a piece of black plastic lacing a little longer than you want your necklace to be.
3. I like to tie a bead onto one end to keep the threaded beads from falling off. You can cut it off later.
4. String on some gold beads, then rainbow colored beads, and end with some more gold beads.
5. Tie your necklace together and wear it proudly!
