Counting Math Game for Kids: Action Dice
Materials for Counting Math Game
- Dice (Grab them from an old board game or purchase some here.)
- Wooden craft block
- Markers
Counting Math Game Directions
1. Think up some gross motor actions for your child to do. You’ll need six actions- one for each side of the die. We chose:
- Clap
- Jump
- Spin
- Tap Knees
- Blink
- Stomp
2. Use your markers to write one action on each side of the wooden block die. I wrote each one in a different color and drew a symbol to represent the action.
3. To play, roll the wooden block die and one of your number dice at the same time. Do the action that your wooden block landed on the number of times that corresponds with your number die. (I used number dice with dots so Theo could count the dots to get one-to-one correspondence practice.) Repeat as often as you’d like!
Tips
- You can play on your own or with a partner!
- Add another number die to the game to provide practice counting even higher. Older kids can practice adding the dice.
- If your child is ready to practice counting on, use one number die with written numbers and one number die with dots. Have the child say the written number that was rolled and count on using the dots of the second number die.
