Ladybug activities are always fun to do this time of year. You can even tie the ladybug crafts into popular children’s books like we did with this paper plate ladybug craft and Eric Carle’s The Grouchy Ladybug.
These finished egg carton ladybugs can be used to decorate your classroom during the spring and summer months, can be used for counting and math activities in centers or in coordination with books like Ten Little Ladybugs, or for creative play. They are super easy to make and turn out really cute!
Egg Carton Ladybug Craft
Materials for Egg Carton Ladybug
- Empty egg carton
- Red and black tempera paint (acrylic works too)
- Red construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Black marker or crayon
- Googly eyes
Directions for Making Egg Carton Ladybug
1. Cut apart an empty egg carton. Use one section per ladybug. (These are my favorite crafting scissors for adults. They’re perfect for cutting apart tough egg cartons, but they’re definitely too sharp for young children.)
2. Paint your egg carton section red. Paint the front of the egg carton section black for a face. Let dry.
3. Cut out a red circle from the construction paper. I used a circle hole punch like this one, but you could also just trace a circle and cut it out with scissors.
4. Cut the paper circle in half to make two wings.
5. Draw black circles onto each wing.
6. Glue the wings on top of your egg carton.
7. Glue googly eyes on the front of your egg carton.
Let the glue dry, and you’re done! I love how cute a whole cluster of ladybugs looks together!
