One of our simplest fine motor activities is Christmas themed- Decorate the Felt Christmas Trees with Pompoms. This Christmas activity for kids is super easy to set up and a great way to work on fine motor skills while participating in all the holiday fun!

I’m so excited for the second day of our Christmas Play Series hosted by myself and five of my favorite blogging friends! (Be sure to check out our first post in the series if you missed it: Snowy Christmas Tree Small World.)
Theo has been so excited every time he sees Christmas trees, whether they be real ones set up in someone’s home or decorative ones in the stores. He always yells out, “Christmas tree! I happy!” I wanted to build on his Christmas tree excitement with a simple invitation to play. This fine motor Christmas activity ended up being perfect for him! Decorate the Felt Christmas Trees Fine Motor Activity
Materials Christmas Tree Activity
- Some green felt
- Good pair of scissors
- Mini poms (I received mine for free from Craftprojectideas.)
- Plastic tweezers (similar to these plastic tweezers)
Setting Up the Play Invitation
Cut out a few green felt triangles to represent Christmas trees. Place them on a flat surface along with the mini poms and tweezers. Invite your child to come and play! (Reminder: Small parts like these mini pompoms can pose a choking hazard. Never leave your child unattended.)
Playing
Theo has been very interested in fine motor activities lately so he was excited for this Christmas fine motor activity! It took him a few tries to get the hang of grabbing the mini poms.
He was so proud once he did! (Theo has had quite a bit of practice with larger sized poms, like with our pompom and mirror toddler activity. If your child isn’t ready for mini poms, you can use a larger size.)
Theo and I talked about what colors he was placing onto each tree. Such a wonderful opportunity for color practice!
After he was done with the activity, I placed it in the living room where he can easily get it on his own to play with again.
