Ever since visiting the Motoi Yamamoto salt exhibit at our local museum last year, we’ve been crazy for creating with salt and sand! (Recently we used salt as the main sensory material of our winter small world.)
With spring quickly approaching we decided to do some sand drawings outside using spring colors! (This post contains affiliate links.)
Spring Activities for Kids: Drawing with Sand
Drawing with sand is super simple to do! Grab some clear squeeze bottles and fill each bottle up with different colored sand. Then head outside and find a large area to use as your canvas. For our spring art we used our back patio.
Test out each bottle to see if the sand flows easily. Sometimes the top of the squeeze bottle needs to be snipped off a tiny bit to make the hole a bit wider.
Now you’re ready to draw!
We drew some Easter eggs with different designs and colors.
Lucy was very proud of her spring flower!
And Theo loved piling one color of sand on top of another.

I just love the simplicity of drawing with sand. It’s a great way to do some open-ended art right outside!
